Workshops and Project Timeline

A main objective of the 2010 BIP is to provide support to national decision makers in the development and use of biodiversity indicators. As well as the development of guidance documents and this website (the National Biodiversity Indicators Portal), the 2010 BIP is involved in a series of regional capacity building workshops to assist countries in selecting and producing indicators for their Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans and for international reporting to the biodiversity related Conventions.

The 2010 BIP has a wealth of experience in national indicator capacity building. Prior to the establishment of the Partnership, UNEP-WCMC (host of the 2010 BIP Secretariat) ran a series of capacity building workshops under the Biodiversity Indicators for National Use (BINU) Project. At present the Partnership is leading a project in conjunction with UNEP-WCMC entitled ‘Biodiversity Indicators Capacity Strengthening in Africa’, this project consists of a series of workshops in Southern and Eastern Africa.
