Red List Indicator Calculator

The Red List Index (RLI) forms part of the CBD indicator suite developed to monitor biodiversity trends and assess progress towards the 2010 Biodiversity Target. The RLI, initially designed as a global indicator, utilizes Red List Assessments to show changes in the overall extinction risk of sets of species.

Over the past few decades there has been an increase in the number of nations and regions (40 at present) producing their own Red Lists. This coupled with enhanced interest in national biodiversity monitoring resulted in international demand for a National RLI resource.

The Red List Index Calculator, produced by 2010 BIP and BirdLife with support of the Global Environment Facility, is a simple tool which enables Red List data to be used to automatically generate RLIs. The calculator is particularly useful for countries or regions looking to produce their own RLIs.
