A main objective of the BIP is to provide support to national decision makers in the development and use of biodiversity indicators. As well as the development of guidance documents and this website (the National Biodiversity Indicators Portal), the BIP is implementing a series of regional capacity building workshops to assist countries in selecting and producing indicators for their Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans and for international reporting to the biodiversity related Conventions. This work is in coordination with the NBSAP support work of the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD).
The BIP has a wealth of experience in national indicator capacity building. The Partnership has run a series of regional workshops across the globe and engaged with over 80 countries. In addition, the BIP Secretariat has been providing assisting the SCBD with a series of regional workshops aiming to facilitate the revision of Parties' NBSAPs in line with the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020. In these workshops, the BIP Secretariat has been providing guidance on the devleopment and use of indicators in national target setting and NBSAP enhancement. BIP Regional Workshops
The BIP is currently running a series of regional capacity building workshops in support of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 on indicator development as part of the NBSAP updating process. Some workshops have taken place during 2012, while the remainder will be held during the course of 2013.
