Using global biodiversity indicators and underlying data to support NBSAP development and national reporting:
Many of the global indicators brought together under the Biodiversity Indicators Partnership (BIP) are comprised of national level data, or in some cases if not derived from national data, can be disaggregated at the national level. This Roadmap has been produced to create awareness of the possible use of the global indicators and their underlying data for supporting NBSAP implementation and national reporting requirements.
It is evident that a variety of approaches are used by countries in order to assess their progress towards the Aichi Biodiversity Targets in Part III of their National Reports. This document aims to identify and summarise these approaches, and the strengths, limitations and considerations for use of each of these.
The following courses have been developed through the NBSAP Forum and in support of countries who are currently revising and updating their NBSAPs. At the time, the only course available is the Target Settings and NBSAP module; however, additional NBSAP content will be available in the future.
CBD Technical Series No. 58: Developing Ecosystem Service Indicators: Experiences and lessons learned from sub-global assessments and other initiatives
This report represents the efforts of a wide group of experts who were challenged with identifying how we might improve our understanding of ecosystem services using indicators. It focuses on the practical details of monitoring and measuring ecosystem services at scales that are relevant for policy and management. Drawing from a range of case studies and a thorough analysis of the literature, it lays out both the challenges to developing reliable indicators and the opportunities for improving and enhancing what we currently know.
